Community Projects
For nearly a century, Farm Credit Services has long standing commitments to support agricultural organizations throughout our four state territory. Given this commitment, the board of directors approved a 50% increase in the amount of dollars spent to foster education and youth initiatives. Those additional dollars are helping support several new initiatives including the following:
2008 Contributions
Farm Safety Just for Kids – Since its beginning in 2001, the Stone Creek Chapter of FSJ4K has been promoting safety throughout much of eastern Ohio, participating in up to 30 events each year and touching close to 30,000 people. The program offers children a way to learn the importance of farm and outdoor safety and provides individuals, families and communities with educational resources to make the farm a safe and healthy environment. This year, Farm Credit made a $10,000 donation to help buy a new utility trailer to haul materials used at Farm Safety events around Ohio.
2007 Contributions
4-H Camp Whitewood - In order to keep the camp running, Camp Whitewood officials needed to raise funds to update their water treatment plant. They raised almost $400,000, but needed additional funding to get the project complete. The FCS staff in Northeastern Ohio rallied behind the cause and challenged businesses in the area to contribute to the fundraising efforts. Farm Credit contributed $25,000 and raised an additional $32,000 from customers and area businesses for a total contribution of $57,000, more than enough to help the camp meet their updated fund request!
Heartland Regional Marketing and Expo Facility - This project involves construction of a new facility to provide central Kentucky farmers with a viable loadout and marketing facility for group/co-mingling animals for shipment in retained ownership programs and other group marketing efforts. Additionally, the center will be used for youth and livestock shows, field days and demonstrations. Farm Credit has pledged $50,000.
Camp Clifton - Facing several major repairs, the staff at Camp Clifton approached the central Ohio staff about helping upgrade the camp kitchen facilities. Farm Credit's $20,000 donation will go toward replacing windows and floors in the dining hall and kitchen and making necessary kitchen upgrades.
