Crop Insurance Program

Crop Insurance

Unpredictable weather and volatile markets call for risk management on the farm. To help you protect your profits FCS offers a broad range of crop insurance services with both yield and income protection features.

Crop Revenue Coverage (CRC)

  • A whole-farm revenue guarantee insurance - MPCI with price protection. Coverage is based on your farm's yield history. CRC provides you with:
  • Cash value protection, allowing more aggressive marketing strategies
  • Upside and downside price protection
  • Guaranteed minimum price coverage per acre that will increase if harvest prices are higher than pre-planting set prices

Multi-Peril Crop Insurance (MPCI)
A whole-farm yield guarantee insurance that protects against low yields, poor quality, late planting, replanting costs and prevented planting due to natural disasters such as adverse weather, plant disease, insect or wildlife damage, and fire.  MPCI provides:

  • Flexible coverage levels
  • Asset insurance
  • Guaranteed income in the event of a crop loss or low yields
  • Protection for both your cash flow and crop investments

Crop Hail Insurance

  • An acre-by-acre yield guarantee that provides:

November 2009 Crop Update

This year’s harvest is starting out very slow due to the late maturing crops and the wet weather conditions.

So far though, we are hearing of strong yields yet there are some concerns about mold and quality issues in both corn and soybeans.  Dudley Lipps, Crop Insurance Specialist from Eaton, Ohio shares “We’ve known about some isolated white mold and SDS problems in soybeans since late summer, but now that farmers are starting corn harvest, we are also hearing about mold and quality issues with that crop as well”. Dudley continues, “We are encouraging customers who believe they may have some concerns to take a sample to the elevator before harvesting the crop and have it tested. It will be important to contact their crop insurance agent as well if they find they have quality problems with their grain.”

While October looks to be a busy month for harvest, it is also an important month for crop insurance.   Two of the most popular plans of insurance are Crop Revenue Coverage (CRC) and Revenue Assurance (RA).   Both plans use a monthly average of various future prices during October to determine the “Harvest Price” for the crops. The only exception is the RA corn policy which uses a November average of December Corn futures for the “Harvest Price.”

Once those prices are announced,  contact your crop insurance agent to let them know your yields.   He or she can then help you determine if you have a potential claim.

FCS has crop insurance specialists all across our four state territory who are available and willing to answer questions, even if you do not have crop insurance through Farm Credit.

To contact the crop insurance specialist in your area, please contact your local Farm Credit office.
