Farm Credit to elect four directors

Ag Co-op Elections to be Held this Fall

Louisville, KY (July 20, 2007) – Eight farmers have been nominated to fill four Board of Director positions at Farm Credit Services of Mid-America (FCS), one of the largest ag lending cooperatives in the nation serving farmers and agribusinesses throughout Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and Tennessee.  Over 58,000 voting stockholders of FCS will elect members of the board through mail in ballots during the cooperative’s annual elections beginning in September. Results will be announced in October.

The board is comprised of 16 elected directors - four from each state that the association serves.  Two independent directors also serve on the board.  Board members meet monthly to set policy and provide overall direction for the association.  Board terms are generally four years.

On the same ballot, voting stockholders will elect members to the 2008 FCS Nominating Committee. This committee is comprised of 20 members – five members from each state the association serves.  Representatives of the Nominating Committee will meet next June to select candidates for the 2008 elected positions.

The eight board candidates (two from each state the association serves) are as follows:

Indiana

Dale Huseman of Cedar Lake, Indiana is a full time farmer and president of Huseman Farm, Inc.  He owns 200 acres and leases an additional 1,600 where he farms corn, soybeans and wheat and finishes hogs.  He is a member of the Indiana Farm Bureau and the Valparaiso Farm Credit Advisory Committee. He received his bachelor of science in agriculture from Purdue University.

Ed Yanos of Cambridge City, Indiana is a full time farmer and President of Yanos Farms, Inc. He owns 512 acres and leases 300 acres where he raises corn and soybeans, and also performs some custom farming operations.  He is a member of the Harvestland Co-op, the Indiana Corn Growers Association and the Indiana Soybean Association.  He serves on the Field Crop Advisory Committee and the Legal Assistance Committee for Indiana Farm Bureau. He also serves on the American Farm Bureau Crop Advisory Committee.  He attended Purdue University and Ball State University.  He and his wife Susan have two daughters, Katie and Allison. As a member of the FCS board, he serves on the Audit Committee and is also a member of the AgriBank Farm Credit Council.

Kentucky

Dan Flanagan of Campbellsville, Kentucky owns 400 acres and leases an additional 100 where he farms corn, soybeans and wheat.  He also manages six broiler houses and raises both wholesale and retail produce.  He served as the Deputy Commissioner for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture.  Prior to that time, we served 18 years on the staff at Campbellsville University, where he served as vice president for student affairs and vice president for religious life and counseling. He was named “Agribusiness Person of the Year” and “Master Conservationist of the Year.”   Flanagan received his bachelors degree from Campbellsville University. He also graduated from the University of Louisville where he received his Masters in Administration. Additionally, he received his masters degree in Pastoral Psychology and Counseling from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.   He and his wife Ginny have two children, William and Matthew. 

Daryl Greenfield of Elkton, Kentucky is a full time farmer and President of G&G Farms.  He owns 1,272 acres and leases 700 acres where he raises corn, soybeans, wheat, and tobacco.  He is a director and vice president of the Todd County Farm Bureau.  He is also a director of the Hopkinsville Elevator and CAE (ethanol plant).  He serves as a deacon at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church.  He attended Todd County Central High School and Russellville Vocational School.  He and his wife Dianna have two children, Donna and Kelvin.   He currently serves on the Farm Credit Board of Directors.

Ohio

Andrew Wilson of Somerset, Ohio operates a 750 acre farm producing corn, soybeans, wheat, and hay.  As a contract grower for Heimerl Farms Ltd, he has a wean-to-breeding and a wean-to-finish gilt operation.  He also operates a cow/calf operation independently.  Andrew is a member at Fairfield Christian Church where he serves as a deacon.  He is a member of the Farm Bureau where he has served in many capacities.  He served on the county Farm Bureau board and was the chair of the Promotion and Education committee.  He was also a committee member of the Young Farmers and Ranchers and served two terms as a state board director.  He and his wife Johanne have two children, Jaxon and Jenna.

David Wilson of East Liberty, Ohio owns 450 acres and leases 500 acres where he raises corn, beans, wheat, and Holstein steers.  He is a member of the Farm Bureau, the Ohio Corn Growers Association, and the Ohio Soybean Association.  He serves as a commander for the American Legion and as an elder at High Point Church of Christ.  He attended Logan Hills High School.  He and his wife Pamela have two sons, Matthew and Timothy.   He currently serves on the Farm Credit Board of Directors.

Tennessee

Dan Ashby of Maryville, Tennessee owns 120 acres where he farms beef cattle, corn, hay, and timber.  Ashby is a member of several organizations including Maryville Greenback Cooperative, Tennessee Cattleman’s Association, and National Cattleman’s Beef Association.  He is also a Tennessee Master Beef Producer.  He received his bachelor of science degree in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. 

Glen Hutchinson of Murfreesboro, Tennessee owns 1,400 acres and leases 1,200 acres where he raises row crops with an emphasis in corn, cotton, soybeans and wheat.  He also has a small cow/calf operation.  Hutchinson serves as director for the Rutherford Farmers Cooperative and for the Rutherford County Farm Bureau.   He received his bachelor of science degree from Middle Tennessee State University.  He and his wife, Patti, have two children, William Thomas and Emily Rachel.
