Security
At Farm Credit Services the security of your personal and financial information is one of our most important priorities. Any transaction that involves sending information, such as your name, loan or personal information, is encrypted on both the sending and receiving ends to keep others from viewing.
How do we do that?
All on-line banking transactions use a Secure Sockets Layer protocol (SSL) connection between your web browser and our system. SSL is an industry standard method to encrypt information so it can not be read while it is en route to our servers. What that means is that it is scrambled when it leaves your computer and is decoded once it reaches ours. You may check that your web session is secure by looking for a small lock symbol usually located in the lower corner of your web browser window. Current versions of leading web browsers indicate when a web page is encrypted for transmission through this symbol. You may also look for the letters "https://" at the beginning of your website URL in your web browser. The "s" means that the web connection is secure.
Browsers and Encryption
For accessing Farm Credits on-line banking requires your browser support SSL. It is important that you regularly update your browser in order to ensure that you are protected from the latest security vulnerabilities. If you are using a web browser that doesn’t meet our security requirements the latest versions of FireFox, Internet Explorer and any other supported browser can be downloaded for free from their respective websites.
Protect Yourself from Fraudulent Web Sites and Phishing
Personal information shared over the Internet can be used to commit fraud. One common method is for thieves to create a web site using a name that is similar to that of a reputable business, for instance by using a common misspelling of the company's name. The intent is to lure you into clicking onto the copycat web site and giving your personal information, including your account number and password. We caution you to make sure of whom you are dealing with over the Internet and to understand what will be done with your information. Always check that you have typed the correct web site address before entering personal information onto a site. For more detail on steps you can take to protect yourself, we suggest that you review guidelines provided by the FDIC.
Phishing is a type of online fraud where you are tricked into providing your personal information through your computer. By posing as individuals or organizations you know, trust and maybe have relationships with, "phishers" seek to obtain your computer passwords, credit card numbers or bank account information so they can use them fraudulently.
